Mt. Jirisan is The first National Park in the country (1967), and a land park of the largest area (10 billion and 456 million pyeong). It is a mountain range of awesome scale, extending across the three provinces and five cities.

It is called Jirisan because it changed an ignorant person staying there into a wise one.

1,915 meters above sea level, Cheonwangbong Peak, considered to be the pillar of heaven is the main peak.

As this is the location of the most well-preserved virgin forest in Korea and wild life, the majestic and mystical mountain is often viewed with the highest respect.

There are many species of animal and plant life, and as the first place to cultivate tea in Korea, herbal medicine cultivation still flourishes here.

Mt Jirisan is proud of beautiful scenery every season. In spring it's beautiful with royal azalea blossoms in Seseok and Baraebong, and a tunnel of Cherry blossoms from HwaGyeojang to Ssangyeosa temple; in summer it is cool with fresh verdure, waterfalls and valleys; in autumn it is gorgeous with colored leaves stretching 3 km of Piagol valley and eulalias on the climbing trail of Manbokdae; snowscape of winter.

The weather is temperamental and only 80~100 days out of the year are clear and sunny, but the mist and fog create rare scenes not found elsewhere.

Mt. Jirisan was also where the Buddhist culture prospered, and there are a lot of cultural assets here, such as Silsangsa Temple(National Treasure No.7), Baekjangam and the Three-Story Stone Pagoda (National Treasure No. 26.).
